Self Hypnosis Techniques to Help you Sleep

November 23rd, 2008

Jae Taylor asked:

Many people in our stress filled environment have trouble falling asleep.

However, there are certain self hypnosis techniques that can help with your sleeping habits.

While self hypnosis should not be used to reduce sleeping times, as not just your mind but also your physical body needs to rest, it can be used to reduce the amount of time spent lying in bed waiting to fall asleep.

Practice the following form of minor self hypnosis technique to help you sleep. While the first few nights, this can take up to an hour to actually work, as your mind becomes accustomed to this “shut-off ” cue, you will fall asleep faster and in a more relaxed way:

Make sure everything is ready for you to fall asleep before you begin, as it can become a bad habit to stop in the middle of self hypnosis to go check that the door is locked, or the alarm is set. If you tend to do this, make a list of pre-bed things to do, and tick each item off.

Begin while lying on your back in your bed. Make sure you are comfortable, with your arms lying by your sides. If you are worrying about something you need to do tomorrow, take a moment and write it down. Tell yourself you will deal with it tomorrow (or whenever you will be dealing with it) and push it from your mind. Go back to your position.

Contract and relax each set of muscles in your body, starting with your toes and ending as high up as you can control. (For some people, this ends with shoulder contractions). Remember that you are trying to relax, so don’t worry if your body is not cooperating.

Focus on your breathing. With your eyes closed, tell yourself that you are becoming very relaxed and calm. If you need to have an image in your head, choose something calm and soothing, such as the sky. (This can also be done with your eyes open. Choose which is more natural for you).

Instead of counting sheep, simply count slowly down from a number. Try starting with 30, although some people may need more and others less.

Count slowly and with each number, tell yourself that you are becoming sleepier.

When you reach zero, tell yourself that you are so sleepy; you might not even be able to open your eyes. Relax and let yourself drift away.

This technique may take time to work. If it does not work the first time, try slowing down the countdown, or choosing a different image.

Many people try to use self-hypnosis as a method in order to function on less sleep, forgetting that our body’s needs are separate from what our mind thinks you can hypnotize yourself into thinking you do not need to eat, but you will still need to eat, and the same goes for sleep.

Self hypnosis cannot actually replace sleep, it only makes it easier to fall asleep and for some people, can improve the quality of their sleep.

Cure Your Insomnia With 8 Quick Steps With Self Hypnosis

November 22nd, 2008
self hypnosis
Alan Densky asked:

Insomnia is a very common symptom of stress and depression. Whether you wake up during the night and have a hard time falling back to sleep, or you have a hard time falling asleep initially, you have insomnia.

THERE ARE FOUR TYPES OF INSOMNIA

PSYCHO-REACTIVE INSOMNIA: Psycho-reactive Insomnia is generally caused by tension. The person’s mind is keeping them awake with worry. In addition, they may begin to worry about getting to sleep because they have to awaken in the morning. Insomnia sufferers often worry that they may become ill or die from lack of sleep.

ENDOGENOUS INSOMNIA: This is often caused by a discomfort within the body ranging from indigestion to pain.

EXOGENOUS INSOMNIA: This is caused by disturbances outside of the body such as noise or a partner’s snoring. This is the easiest type of insomnia or sleep disturbance to cure.

FUNCTIONAL INSOMNIA: This is caused by a physical problem in the subject’s sleep-wakefulness center in the brain.

Many insomniacs develop a phobia of getting into bed because they expect to lie awake. This negative type of expectation can cause a bout of insomnia all by itself.

HERE ARE THE FACTS

1. Nobody has ever died from or become ill from not sleeping enough. The body and mind will always get at least the minimum amount of rest that it needs, no matter what. If you lose some sleep one night, the next night you will get enough sleep to make up the loss.

2. Our internal clock brings about a valley of fatigue in cycles. Every four to six hours you will experience the maximum amount of fatigue, and this is when it is easiest for you to fall asleep. After that you will experience a renewed level of energy and it will become difficult to fall asleep.

3. Many people are sure that they have not slept a wink, but research labs have proven that we all sleep during the night. Sometimes you believe that you’ve been lying awake thinking, but actually you have been sleeping lightly and dreaming.

4. Trying to fall asleep: There is a law of nature called “The Law of Reversed Effect.” The law says that if you “try” to do something, you will get the opposite. And the harder you “try,” the more you will get the opposite. So, trying to fall asleep will insure that you will remain awake. Do not “try” to fall asleep, and do not try to will yourself to sleep. Merely allow yourself to fall asleep.

5. Alcohol will put you to sleep: This may be true, as alcohol is a depressant. However, as soon as the drink wears off, you will awaken abruptly and it will become harder than ever to fall asleep.

6. Sleeping pills will help: During sleep it is the dream phase in which we get our rest. Sleeping pills suppress the dream phase of sleep (REM sleep). That is why one generally awakens feeling more tired than before going to sleep after using drugs.

EFFECTING A CURE

1. figure out what time you feel the most fatigued in the evening. From that point forward, every evening at least an hour before that time, take a bath that is slightly warmer than body temperature for 20 minutes. A shower will not have the intended effect.

2. Drink a warm beverage, preferably not tea because of the caffeine, which will wake you up. It’s best to drink warm milk if you can tolerate it.

3. Stop thoughts of problems that you have. Do not think about what you need to do tomorrow. If you are worried that you will forget what you have to do tomorrow, write it down.

4. Avoid stimulating thoughts and TV shows. If you must read, then read something that is tiresome.

5. Reserve your bed for sleep. Watch TV or read only from a chair or while on your couch.

6. Get into bed at least 20 minutes before your valley of fatigue. Once you are in bed, if worries start to pop into your head, repeat this mantra several times to yourself, “I’ll think about it tomorrow.” This will help to stop the excessive thinking. Do not try to make your mind blank and don’t try to fall asleep. Just allow yourself to rest.

7. For Endogenous Insomnia, you should eliminate the discomfort to the best of your ability.

8. For Exogenous Insomnia, make your room as quiet as possible. If your partner listens to loud music, you can move to another room. Running a fan motor can bring on sleep, as it will tend to muffle loud noises. The monotonous drone of the fan usually proves to be quite hypnotic and relaxing.

HYPNOSIS FOR INSOMNIA - PSYCHO-REACTIVE AND FUNCTIONAL INSOMNIA

Practice hypnotherapy for insomnia every day. Stress worsens and can even cause a sleeping problem. Self-hypnosis CD’s can help you to swiftly manage stress. Post-hypnotic suggestions for coping, and to encourage the anticpation of sleep can help. Your sub vocalized motto should be: “I fall asleep promptly, and sleep soundly and restfully all through the night.”

Hypnosis For Childbirth: What Can We Expect From Self-Hypnosis?

November 21st, 2008
self hypnosis
Jose Rossello asked:

Self-hypnosis can be defined as a self-induced trance state. Hypnosis induced by yourself, focusing your mind in a positive way, affirmations, and relaxation. This concept is closely related to autosuggestion, which is used for physical symptoms explained, at least in part, by the thoughts and beliefs of a person.

These techniques have been used in reducing pain in labor for a century and nowadays are being applied more extensively than ever. This is a consequence of the increasing number of scientific research demonstrating the benefits of the use of hypnotherapy in the clinical setting. The aim of this paper is to review existing and published evidence on the effectiveness of hypnosis for childbirth.

Hypnosis has been used in obstetrics for many years. In 1922, Shultze-Rhonhof reported an 89.5% success rate in a series of 79 cases. He came to the conclusion that hypnosis was a useful and harmless anesthetic agent. But not everyone thought that hypnosis was a completely safe technique for the mother and the child.

Regarding the safety of the technique, in 1949, a leading article in the British Medical Journal states that there is no evidence that in capable and conscientious hands hypnotism, repeated as many times as is desired, carries with it any physical or psychological danger to the patient.

Later in 1952, an investigation carried out by A.M. Michael and published under the title of Hypnosis and Childbirth, the author concludes that there is evidence to show that the duration of labor is shortened. He also concludes that the nursing staff can be easily trained to deal with the hypnotic patient, and that the method is both practicable and safe for the mother and infant.

Today, more than 50 years after those studies were conducted, in the era of powerful study designs like the randomized clinical trial, hypnosis has been recognized as a proven method to avoid pharmacological or invasive interventions for pain management.

In a systematic review conducted by the Cochrane Collaboration (Cochrane Database Syst Rev 2006; 4: CD003521), the joint results of five clinical trials comparing self-hypnosis with the treatment of reference showed that women taught self-hypnosis had decreased requirements for pharmacological analgesia by 47%, including epidural analgesia by 70%. These women were significantly more satisfied with their pain management during labor compared with controls.

Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing, or birth without fears, is a hypnotherapy program specifically designed for birth, using the principles and techniques of hypnosis and self-relaxation. It teaches simple but specific self-hypnosis, relaxation and breathing techniques for a better birth. Their advocates tell us that hypnobirthing is much more than simple hypnosis. It is based on the notion of learning how to put yourself back in control of your birth, rather than blindly turning your birthing experience over to your doctor or midwife.

Results from scientific studies show without any doubt that hypnosis is an effective technique. The use of antenatal training in self-hypnosis as a tool to provide analgesia, relaxation and anxiety relief in labor is not uncommon.

Hypnosis is a simple, inexpensive way to improve the childbirth experience, reduce complications associated with pharmacological interventions, along with costs in maternity care.

Self Confidence, Self Esteem and Self Hypnosis

November 20th, 2008
self hypnosis
Michael McGrath asked:

Everyone one of us knows the important role that self confidence plays in our lives. Without a good measure of confidence in ourselves we would find it difficult to interact in social, business or even personal situations. Every one of us has some degree of confidence in ourselves whether we realize it or not. Without confidence you would not survive in the world! For example you must have enough faith that you can clothe, feed and shelter yourself. However how many of us take a good look at the state of our self esteem? If you take the time to increase your self esteem you will find that your self confidence increases naturally. Build a solid strong self-image, with high self-esteem and you will feel invincible!

Increasing your self-esteem and rebuilding your self image to reflect the person you want to be and the type of person who is already living the life you desire will lead to more happiness, success and confidence. So what is self-esteem and how can you develop your own?

Well, self-esteem is simply a word that is used to describe how you feel about yourself. It represents your own self worth and reflects your internal beliefs about yourself and your place in the world.

Your self-esteem is the bedrock of your self-image and it is your self-image that you use, unconsciously, as a guide to your own abilities - what you think you can and cannot achieve. Your self-image is also the blue-print from which you build your life. If you have a negative or unrealistically negative image of yourself and your abilities then your life will never work the way you wish it to regardless of how hard you try to change it!

As your self image is how you see yourself then this determines how you think, act and react to the world around you. It influences your behaviour and thus it is directly responsible for the results you get in life. Having low self-esteem usually leads to a victim type self-image where you feel like it is impossible for you to succeed.

If you have high self-esteem your self-image will be very positive and you will feel like you can handle any problem and overcome any obstacle. You feel like you will succeed no matter what life throws at you. Optimism will be a natural automatic by-product.

When you have a strong sense of self worth and high self-esteem you tend to know where you are going in life. It is a fact that men and women who have high self-esteem know what they want from life. They are generally much more goal-orientated than others. These people exude confidence and optimism because they believe that no matter what obstacles they encounter they will reach their goal if they keep going and don’t give-up!

Having high self-esteem allows you to think clearly and avoid emotional thinking and this leads to the gaining the skill of persistence. It allows you to act in circumstances from a clear mental view point instead of reacting. This gives you much more power in any circumstance because you can think clearly and make decisions based on solid evidence and clear rationalization with the belief that you can find a way to effectively deal with the situation at hand. People with low self-esteem usually just give-up when faced with challenges because they believe they cannot meet them.

People with high self-esteem are more centered in the moment. Their thoughts are not in the past or focused on the distant future. By feeling secure, safe and loving they keep their focus in the present and thus enjoy their experiences much more. Those with low-self-esteem find it hard to enjoy what they are doing because their thoughts dwell on the past, future potential failures and the worry of how other people perceive them. Having a solid belief in yourself and your abilities also gives you the opportunity to look at your weaknesses and improve yourself because you are able to see these as challenges to overcome rather than as a criticisms or affirmations of your faults.

In order to achieve high self-esteem you must first be willing to accept yourself as you are. Stop judging yourself and especially stop judging the past. The key is to live in the moment.

Take inventory of your strengths. Congratulate yourself on your abilities and the skills you have developed on your journey through life. Accept that you have made mistakes, everyone makes them. Accept that you have learned valuable lessons from things that you believe you have done wrong. Every action you have ever taken has helped to develop the person you are today and the knowledge you gained from each experience will help to create the person you intend to be tomorrow. Every experience you have is moving you towards your desires!

Recall your success and dwell on them for a moment internally. There is no need to be egotistical about this. Just congratulate yourself on a job well done and know that you can replicate these successes again and again! Also think about what you want to gain in life. Set yourself some goals. If it seems like they are too far out of reach then set smaller goals first that will lead you closer to your ultimate desires.

Having doubts about your ability to achieve your goals can be used to your advantage. Write down, in a point by point list, all the reason you believe you cannot achieve your goals. Then take each one and develop a plan to overcome each obstacle. An example would be if you wanted a better paying job and set a goal to change your career yet you think that you do not have the necessary experience or qualifications to achieve this. In order to overcome these negative beliefs you must create a plan to gain the experience and/or qualifications you feel you need. Perhaps setting a goal to return to night school or volunteer to gain more experience would address these issues. In such a case you would take inventory of your current circumstances and determine how best you could gain what you needed.

Another essential skill you need to develop is the use of positive self-talk. Watch how you speak to yourself internally and how you speak about yourself to others. Both are forms of affirmations which are really commands you are giving to your subconscious mind. You must reprogram your mind for success. Write your goal down, in the present tense, as though you were telling someone else exactly how your life is now. Read the statement every morning and every night. Try self-hypnosis as a form of positive mental brain-washing. Use it to program your subconscious mind for success.

In this way you will increase your belief in yourself, your abilities and your future and your self-esteem will sky-rocket!

How to Get Help With Learning: Self Hypnosis for Better Learning

November 19th, 2008

J Seymour asked:

The help with learning that you need is available whether you are seeking exams self help or ways to improve your overall academic achievement. Hypnosis provides learning self-help that gives you the support when you study in your training. It also serves as a guide if you are teaching

Help with Learning for Teachers

It may come as a surprise to some students that teachers need assistance and guidance, too. The more a teacher knows about the education process, the better able she is to promote education for her students. Getting to know the cognitive mental process used when we learn is a great step in becoming a great teacher.

Teaching requires some level of empathy for students. Teachers can benefit from hypnosis as a tool for teaching as they develop in-depth perspectives on how kids learn. Students of all ages benefit from having teachers who are very involved with the educational process. Teachers can improve their teaching strategies by accommodating to the way students learn.

Guide for Students

Of course, students benefit from using self-hypnosis to achieve better academic success. This approach helps students on many different levels. A simple math example can illustrate how the subconscious mind and inner beliefs can make all the difference.

Many females fail to do well in math and there is a consensus that points to lack of confidence in this realm as the culprit. Girls are not supposed to do well in math. Many females who simply shut down without putting forth the necessary effort adopt this stereotype.

When you identify someone who has difficulty retaining information, you are setting up subconscious mental blocks that prevent you from doing well academically. You can use self-hypnosis to overcome this inner belief and lack of confidence to improve academic performance.

Improving Memory

You may have anxious feelings that prevent you from recalling important information when you need to. Your self-consciousness prevents you from taking in the data and it can keep you from conjuring it out of your memory when it is necessary. This causes frustration that can be overcome with the support of hypnosis.

This approach helps you to relax; it peels away the negative feelings, and mental blocks that get in the way of your ability to learn and retain information. When you have a relaxed, open mind, you can let the information flow back and forth.

Hypnosis also helps you to develop creative problem solving skills as you learn how to learn. You simply need to find a high quality recording to guide you through the process. Following are a few ideas to inspire you.

Josephs Clough is a renowned hypnotherapist who has a stellar recording available here - Help With Learning - that can guide you to learn better. Duncan McColl’s recording found here - Exams Self Help - offers guidance for testing and many other selections can be found here - Learning Self Help. Simply follow the links for more information.

The Mythology of Self Hypnosis

November 18th, 2008
self hypnosis
Michael McGrath asked:

Many people have very damaging, destructive beliefs about self hypnosis. They believe that self hypnosis is dangerous or can be misused or abused by others. Many hold beliefs such as: Only messed-up people use self hypnosis! The people who need self hypnosis are emotionally insecure! Self hypnosis users have a lot of issues! These beliefs can stop you from using the power of self hypnosis to change your life, your destiny and your fortunes. What’s more, they are all totally untrue!

The vast majority of people who use self hypnosis are not dysfunctional crazies but in fact normal well-adjusted individuals who have been trying to secure change in their lives but have been unable to affect this change through conventional means. The many hundreds of self hypnosis applications and its very high success rate mean that this form of therapy, or mind programming, has become more popular over the years than any other self improvement tool.

Every one of us has some issue, or issues, in our lives that we would like to improve. Unfortunately historical ways of dealing with such things seldom produce satisfactory results. Even those that do produce positive long-term results take months, if not years, to implement. A good example of this is psychotherapy which is expensive, time-consuming, and often, fails to produce the measurable results desired.

AQs well as having a very high success rate there is an additional reason for utilizing the power of self hypnosis. As a tool for internal and external change it is by far the fastest method available today.

Self hypnosis can secure change rapidly because it gives you the ability to communicate directly with the subconscious mind and influence change at this very deep level of behaviourism.

By far the most common application of self hypnosis, as a self improvement tool, is to secure changes in behaviour. For example a great many self hypnosis practitioners begin their hypnotic journeys wanting to eliminate negative behaviours such as smoking or over-eating!

Even though there are many more applications of self hypnosis, behaviour modification is the most popular to date. Only after initial success do self hypnosis users start to venture into the truly remarkable and wonders uses of this powerful mind tool.

Although eliminating unwanted behaviours seems to be the primary use of self hypnosis today it should be noted that as a goal-achievement tool it is priceless. When self hypnosis has been used as part of a goal-setting/goal-achievement plan its success rate has been amazing. By using sophisticated sound technologies, within a carefully guided session, it is possible to coerce the brain into a certain state that produces specific mind/body altering brainwaves which give direct access to the subconscious mind. The most common brainwave state entered into during a self hypnosis session is the Alpha state. While emmersed in this mental state you become very open to suggestion and it is therefore very easy to influence the subconscious mind.

As the subconscious mind is responsible for our memories and automatic behaviours and feelings we can ensure that our automatic responses are the way we want them to be merely by programming the subconscious mind.

For instance, if you are a procrastinator when it comes to house-work or study then it is merely a matter of using the hypnotic state to access the subconscious mind. Once a connection to this deeper level of mind has been made, you can use clever self hypnosis techniques to program in automatic behaviour that ensures you never procrastinate with these jobs again. It is, in fact, possible to even program yourself into enjoying the tasks!

Likewise, you can also program into your subconscious mind, using the latest break-through techniques in self hypnosis, automatic behaviours, thoughts and feelings that help you to achieve your goals rather than those you may currently have that hinder your progress. Much research into the thoughts, emotional make-up and automatic behaviours of highly successful people have led to self hypnosis programs being made that incorporate the programming of these behaviours into the self hypnosis recording.

This has led to the creation of self hypnosis sessions that can be used to program your mind with the sae thought processes, emotional responses and behaviours of millionaires, top achievers and Olypic athletes. In fact, self hypnosis can be, and has been, used to program the mind for success in every area imaginable. So don’t you think it’s time you stop believing in myths and gave it a try?

Fear of Clowns: How to Overcome Clowns Fears With Self Hypnosis

November 17th, 2008
self hypnosis
J Seymour asked:

The fear of clowns is not just shared by children. Many adults feel anxiety and panic at the sight of a clown. Being afraid of the clowning figures has some natural causes that can be easily incorporated into your ability to overcome this fearful response. This process can be augmented with self-hypnosis.

Subconscious Fear of Clowns

When you undergo hypnosis, you are opening you subconscious mind in order to repattern yuour response to the clown figure. You have good reason to have this instinctual response on some level but this works on a primal level that is simply unnecessary at this stage of human development. Looking at the nature of fear can bring this into perspective.

A phobia is a fearful response that has completely gotten out of control. Initially, being afraid is a useful tool for keeping you out of harm’s way. However, there are instances when this emotion appears when there is no threat. Having intense emotions has intense physical consequences.

Self Help Phobia

When you take a self-help approach to your phobia and your unreasonable panic in the presence of a clown, you are addressing deeply rooted fears that exist on a subconscious level. You can look at this emotional response as an unnecessary automatic reaction to an imagined threat. Imagination is a primary focus on your recovery as well.

Hypnosis Visualization to Overcome Phobias

You can overcome your phobic response to clowns by using self-hypnosis to address your fears head-on. This approach works because you can use visualizations to confront the clown. You don’t have to do this in reality; just visualizing yourself accomplishing this is enough to have excellent results.

In a sense, you are desensitizing yourself to the presence of the clown in your imagination. The threatening figures become realistically harmless in your mind’s eye. Your subconscious makes no distinction between visualizations and reality so it believes that you have actually experienced the safe encounters.

Hypnosis

Self-hypnosis is a powerful guide that gives you the support you need to face your fears through visualization. You are deeply relaxed as you have pleasurable experiences in your mind. The subconscious adopts the visualization as a real experience and your feelings of dread and anxiety melt away in the process.

You can find support and guidance in self-hypnosis recordings. This is ideal because you don’t have to keep appointments or leave your home to achieve success. You can address this problem with great success at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home.

The impressive composition available here -Fear of Clowns - is by celebrated hypnotherapist, Steve G Jones M.Ed. who brings his talent and experience to serve as a guide. Another excellent selection found here – Self Help Phobia - is by Kathy Welter-Nichols, who uses language beautifully to help you overcome you phobia. Cancerous diseases including leukemia should provide cancer pain help that works on many different levels. Oncology approaches that deal with tumor problems and other discomforts exercise support to assist as a guide. Hypnosis for cancer offers additional guidance for a comprehensive treatment plan.

Cancer Self Help

Taking a self-help approach in this endeavor is empowering because you have the ability to work with the treatment plan developed by your physician. This approach is ideal because you are engaging your mind, emotional responses and body with the focus of healing. This is conducive to better health.

There is no secret about the significant connection between the mind and the body. Your thoughts and emotions have a great impact on your health. This is apparent when you consider the physical response you feel when you experience extreme emotions like fear and anxiety.

Your body has automatic physical responses to strong emotion. You may feel your heart pounding; nausea and dizziness take over when you are in the throes of emotion. Self-hypnosis allows you to use this same law of emotion and response in a positive way.

Cancer Pain Help

Your mind is a vast resource that can create positive experiences. You can feel heightened sensations when you are easily agitated, making discomfort worse. When you relieve yourself of negative feelings, you are better able to block painful sensations. It is a matter of focus.

When you use self-hypnosis, you are taking a proactive approach to dealing with discomfort. This strategy relieves your anxiety, allowing you to focus on healing and recovery. You also are able to block pain sensations using this approach.

Focus on Healing

Hypnosis is naturally relaxing, providing you the rest that you require to heal properly. You are also more apt to follow your doctor’s recommendations and directions when you use hypnotic suggestion.

Self-hypnosis is no cure for disease but it is a valuable asset that allows you to focus on getting better by blocking pain and negativity. This produces a healthy outlook on the situation. Improving yourself Through Self-hypnosis

November 16th, 2008
self hypnosis
Robert asked:

Most people are familiar with the term hypnosis, and for many it elicits negative feelings because of how Hollywood projects it through B-rated films. The hypnotist portrayed as a pocket watch waving practitioner assuming complete control over their subject has been a common portrayal that’s still ingrained in the minds of many.

With movies showing people being ‘put under’ and often doing questionable things outside their control, it’s no wonder that many are skeptical, or fearful, of its power to change their lives for the better.

The term hypnosis comes from the Greek word ‘ypnos’, meaning sleep, and this has caused a misconception that when you are hypnotized you are asleep and unconscious. This is simply not the case. When you are under hypnosis, you enter a deeply relaxed state, but you are in fact awake and aware of everything around you.

It is true that when you are in a hypnotic state that you become more susceptible to suggestions, and this where autosuggestion comes to work. Autosuggestion, also known as autogenic training, is a means by which you can train your subconscious mind to focus on and be open to what is being heard. When trying to improve one’s self, this is a good way to get past the mental barriers and doubts that can hold us back from accomplishing our goals.

Those concerned about being hypnotized and made to do something they don’t want to do need not worry, while you may be more susceptible to suggestions being made while in a hypnotic state, you won’t lose the critical defenses and standards you normally have.

If you choose to utilize self hypnosis techniques, here are some things to bear in mind to help you get optimal results from your efforts:

Determine your objectives first.

It’s usually better if you concentrate on one main objective at a time, since this helps you put more focus on it, and thereby increases the probability of success. Do you want to lose a bad habit? Or do you want to excel in a particular field of your academics?

Discipline yourself.

Any self help development program calls for your time and attention. Create a regular schedule for your sessions and find a place where you can be relaxed without disruptions.

The present is what counts.

You should always use the present tense when verbally or mentally affirming your desired goals. Affirmations should start with ‘I am’ and not ‘I will’. Positive affirmations are aimed at making positive changes in your life right now, as in today and right at this moment; therefore they should speak of and in the present.

Practice makes perfect.

While every individual session helps, most self hypnosis techniques take repeated sessions before the affirmations fully ingrain themselves in the listeners subconscious. Depending on your particular program, you may need to continue with a self hypnosis program as long as 30 days in order for the autogenic training to be fully accepted.

Hypnotherapy sessions are powerful ways to train your mind to help you achieve your goals, and despite what the movies might have you believe, are not something that need to be feared.
